Manaram Himalayan Handicraft Pvt. Ltd. is situated in Birtamod, Jhapa, renowned for its skilled craftsmanship and commitment to sustainable products. To strengthen this commitment, the company has installed a 268 kWp solar system, taking a big step toward clean and sustainable energy. This move to solar will cut electricity costs and diesel use, while also improving power quality and supporting the company’s green and eco-friendly initiatives.
Increasing Energy Need
Before going solar, Manaram relied mainly on the NEA grid, utilizing a 500 kVA transformer, and had two diesel generators, one of 160 kVA and the other of 82.5 kVA, for emergencies. As their energy needs grew, they were even planning to add another transformer. But this setup led to rising electricity costs, unstable voltage, and unreliable power that often disrupted operations.

Impact of Solar on Manaram’s Operations
The newly installed 268 kWp solar system is helping Manaram overcome its energy challenges while bringing long-term benefits. It saves about 10% on monthly electricity bills, significantly reduces diesel generator use and supports the company’s green energy goals. The solar has also improved power quality and strengthened the brand’s eco-friendly positioning.
Over the next 25 years, the solar system is projected to replace 100 kiloliters of diesel and cut 570 tonnes of carbon emissions by making a meaningful contribution to environmental sustainability.
Shaping Change and Tradition
With this solar installation, Manaram Himalayan Handicraft is not only cutting down on electricity costs but also weaving sustainability into its identity. By choosing clean energy, the company is proving that traditional industries can grow without compromising on the environment. Their step toward solar power reflects a balance of tradition, efficiency and innovation, setting an example for other businesses in Nepal to achieve long-term savings, improve reliability and reduce their carbon footprint at the same time.
Their investment in renewable energy is creating value not only for the company but also for the community and the planet, showcasing how solar energy can power economic growth and sustainability hand in hand.
