Have you ever thought your nearest mall is not just a shopping destination but also a community hub offering numerous services and amenities in retail, dining, and entertainment? Labim Mall, situated in Pulchowk, Lalitpur, with its aesthetic and minimalistic architecture, has been attracting and providing a plethora of services to its customers. However, with the need to operate all day and the rise in number of customers, they face significant challenges due to frequent power cuts, leading to major disruptions in their business operations.
Consequently, Labim Mall struggles with the dual challenges of unreliable grid electricity and escalating costs associated with diesel backup during frequent power cuts. These issues have resulted in a decrease in operational efficiency and an increase in environmental problems like more carbon emissions. In response to these challenges, Labim Mall partnered with Gham Power and installed 132 kW of solar-powered system. This initiative not only aimed to mitigate the mall’s reliance on grid electricity and diesel generators but also significantly reduce its carbon footprints over the decades. Labim Mall is committed to creating a green, clean, and sustainable environment by installing solar power.

Throughout the installation journey at Labim Mall, our team members faced numerous challenges due to the complex rooftop structures. As one of the popular hangout spaces in Lalitpur, the constant presence of crowds made it difficult to transport materials. Furthermore, the QFX hall within the mall meant that noise from the work could disrupt activities, so our team worked during night hours from 11:00 PM to 5:00 AM. Despite these hurdles, our team successfully completed the solar project in three months, thanks to the support of the Labim Mall staff.
Now with solar power installation, Labim Mall can significantly reduce its operational costs and environmental impact. They now source one-third of their energy from solar power reducing their reliance on polluting diesel generators. Over the next 30 years, the mall is projected to cut carbon emissions by 406 tonnes, save 60% cost on electricity bills, and displace 80 kiloliters of diesel. This shift towards renewable energy marks a substantial step towards sustainability and efficiency.
