Agri-Technician

Objective

The objective of this engagement is to maintain remote extension to assist Gham Power in better understanding farmer requirements, reaching out to the field level and assessing the needs of farmers and collecting leads and conducting workshops with the farming community in collaboration with partners of Gham Power. The Agri-Technician will work with the Agri-analytics Head and Agri-Officer as well as end-user farmers to develop holistic agriculture solutions and may have to visit financial partners and their members in rural nooks of the country for the surveys and workshops.

The Agri-Technician will report to and work closely with the Agri-Officer and Sales and Marketing Manager at Gham Power.

Roles and Functions

Field engagement and Relationship Management:

  • Conduct meetings with financial partners of Gham Power on a need basis and report the outcomes with the management team.
  • Conduct workshops with rural farmers and members of Gham Power partners and extend the information about Gham Power products and collect possible leads.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing managers to conduct events with Gham Power partners and farmers.
  • Provide agriculture consultation at the field level among the rural members and end-users of Gham Power agri-products.
  • Conduct surveys on a need basis for assessing the needs of rural farmers and local agricultural service providers.
  • Identify relevant experts and conduct consultation when necessary to complete the aforementioned agri-functions.

Skills and Education

  • Diploma in Agriculture Sciences preferred but JTA (18 months course on Plant or Animal Sciences) will also be considered based on the field level experiences.
  • Good understanding of the agricultural sector in Nepal, especially for smallholder farmers, with insights on major crops, traditional vs. modern farming practices, disease control, input requirements etc. will be valuable.
  • Excellent communication (written form) skills in English and Nepali are essential.
  • Effective verbal communication and presentation skills are vital. 
  • Comfortable and confident working remotely and closely with rural farmers, and maintaining frequent communications (over the phone and on-site) with the farmers at necessity. 
  • Evidence of the ability to work well within a team and business acumen is preferable.
  • Initiative with a  passion to conduct research on a need basis and travel to rural nooks and corners of the country.
  • Above all, a firm believer in the need of modernizing traditional agriculture in Nepal for overall national development, and willing to make a contribution to this cause.
  • A two-wheelers license is preferred but not mandatory.

Duration of Work

This position is for 6 months with the possibility of extension and appraisal based upon the performance.
