What is it?
Our Rural Solar Microgrid system combines solar with appliances that local shops and entrepreneurs can use to generate income. These include wireless Internet, telemedicine clinic, mobile banking, cold storage, rice/seed grinding mill, charging stations, etc. Rural Microgrids also provide electricity to households using prepaid meters.
Who is it for?
Remote communities and organizations in dire need of basic infrastructure
Our experience of installing solar in remote locations has taught us that their energy needs are usually for very basic infrastructure needs such as community lighting, communication, and healthcare. Also, to make these remote solar installations financially sustainable, there should be a direct tie-in between the power generated by solar and some sort of local revenue generation.
With these objectives in mind, we designed our Rural Solar Microgrid by pre-integrating extremely low-power applications to provide basic infrastructure services, so that the net cost of these services is lowered significantly. Furthermore, part of our project development also depends on building partnerships and training programs with local community to ensure there is a direct way to generate revenue locally from these services.
