Kathmandu, Nepal – April 8, 2013 – Solar Microgrid technology combined with long-term financing can significantly cut diesel consumption and fuel costs for businesses in Nepal.
Gham Power announced an international joint venture on Friday, 5th April at their Solar Microgrid product launch event hosted at Hotel Shanker, attended by over a hundred industry leaders, government officials, and international dignitaries. With this JV, Gham Power joins forces with Finland Connect, a business hub based in Helsinki that manages government funds and private funds to help finance renewable energy projects globally; and NoCart, a renewable energy technology company in Finland that provides a unique power generation unit to manage multiple energy sources like solar, diesel generator, and the grid, and to minimize the total cost of backup power.
“For a typical business in Nepal that primarily uses diesel generator for backup power, this Business Solar Microgrid product reduces diesel consumption by 40 % or more, while lowering the total backup power costs by 20% or more”, said Sandeep Giri, CEO of Gham Power.
“We specialize in MCPPP – Mixed Capital Public Private Partnership, “said Mr. Laurent Knoops, Director of Finland Connect, “and we found perfect partners in Gham Power and NoCart to make larger scale solar projects affordable in Nepal. We are very excited to be a part of this, and help scale renewable energy projects in Nepal with better technology and financing.”
Unlike solar power plants or home lighting systems, solar microgrids implement a unique design. They directly integrate solar with diesel generators so that during power blackouts, solar PV provides primary back up, and beyond a certain load, the system automatically starts the diesel generator. Since most businesses need power during daytime, this solution supplies solar power directly to the load, thus significantly reducing battery storage requirement and overall costs.
“NoCart philosopy is to provide power to people – we are joining hands with Gham Power and Finland Connect to make this happen in Nepal, and globally”, said Mr Mohan Giri, a Finland Connect partner speaking on behalf of NoCart.
Gham Power provides free energy audit to qualify businesses and other organizations for special financing in order to fund their Solar Microgrid systems.
