July 25, 2012 – Banepa. Gham Power completed the installation of 6 streetlight at Hospital and Rehab Center for Disable Children (HRDC) located in Banepa. The streetlights light up the entire hospital compound area, which helps the patients as well as the staff to walk around freely during the night hours.
HRDC Chairman Professor Dr. Ashok Banskota inaugurated the streetlights along with Gham Power President Sandeep Giri in midst of the entire HRDC staff and the Gham Power installation crew. In August 2011, Mr. Giri helped raise funds for HRDC by running the Santa Rosa Marathon in California, USA, where Gham Power committed to match the funds raised “in kind” by providing solar streetlights and installation services. Mr. Giri said that “he was very happy that he was able to gather the fund which has helped installed streetlight at HRDC.” Dr.Banskota was delighted with the work Gham Power had done. “We treasure your effort of putting up streetlights at HRDC. You are the pioneers”, he said – “I am thankful for your effort.”
HRDC started its services to physically disabled children in 1985 with the support of Terre des Hommes (TdH) of Switzerland. In 1992, the ownership of the program was transferred to the Friends of the Disabled (FOD), a Nepalese non-governmental organization. The FOD has been continuously striving to reach out to more and more children with a comprehensive, high quality package of services which are hospital as well as community based and spread out through many districts of the country.
Gham Power has installed 2 double arm streetlight and a single arm streetlights using 18-watt LED lamps (which provides as much light as a 108 watt halogen lamp, thus saving a lot of power). Each streetlight is powered by a 105-watt solar panel. Gham Power began the installation on July 10, 2012 and completed it in 10 days. “It has become very easy for us to walk around the night time and do our work as well”, said one of the volunteers at the center.
